Extraction of 9,500 m³ of RC material at project in Speyer, Germany

Between September and December 2020, a production site from the mid-1970s was dismantled in a commercial area in Speyer to make way for a new, modern logistics building. Familiar terrain for DA member company InduRec, as the dismantling and removal of industrial plants is an essential feature of its range of services. Up to 25 employees were working on the 31,000 m2 area during the period in order to professionally dismantle the approximately 13,000 m2 buildings with an enclosed space of 100,000 m3.

After the remediation of the pollutants and the removal of the pits including the dismantling of a high-bays warehouse and a 26 metre high production tower. In addition, an exhaust gas combustion system had to be dismantled in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Immission Control Act.

Implementation of ecological requirements as a part of the company’s philosophy
A total of around 9,500 m³ of mineral secondary raw material, mainly concrete, was recovered and processed as a part of the selective dismantling during the project and will now find a second life in new applications. The company philosophy is lived by DA member InduRec, which operates a certified recycling plant for the treatment of construction rubble and excavated earth in Mannheim together with BRN Baustoffe Rhein-Neckar itself for the consistent implementation of the ecological requirements for dismantling and recycling of land. Connected to the landfill sites of the city of Mannheim, concrete break-up, road break-up and certified secondary raw materials for road and road construction as well as for industrial use. With a total capacity of approx. 150,000 tons per year, the plant is one of the most efficient recycling plants for material residues in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitian region, according to the company.
