The former mine “Victoria Schacht 8” in Marl \/ Haltern am See (North Rhine-Westphalia) has been dismantled by DA member company Pr\u00fcmer GmbH since February 2025. For many decades, the site was a central component of coal mining in the central Ruhr region.<\/p>\n

There are 35 buildings of different types and heights on the site. The tallest building is the shaft hall with shaft tower (42 metres). The winding machine building, the shaft hall and the headframe are listed buildings and will be preserved.<\/p>\n

Preparation for renaturation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coal mining ended here in 2015 and the shaft was backfilled in 2017. Since then, the dismantling of the above-ground facilities has been underway. This includes the dismantling of the buildings, which are exempt from monument protection, and the renaturation of the area, which will serve as a safety site for mine water drainage in future. Ultimately, the site is to be returned to a near-natural state.<\/p>\n

Due to its proximity to natural areas such as the Westruper Heide, species conservation is of particular importance here. Numerous protected animal species, such as sand lizards, wildcats and various insect species, live in the surrounding area. The demolition planning was coordinated accordingly in order to protect the habitats and secure them in the long term.<\/p>\n
