As a DA member company, it placed a particular focus on resource conservation and sustainability in this deconstruction project.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"334\" data-end=\"719\">The roughly <strong data-start=\"346\" data-end=\"359\">13,500 m\u00b2<\/strong> site was home to a building erected in <strong data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"407\">1970<\/strong>, which has now been cleared to make way for new development. Over the course of the work, a total of <strong data-start=\"509\" data-end=\"520\">3,700 t<\/strong> of construction rubble was generated, including <strong data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"580\">2,600 t<\/strong> of concrete. This concrete was processed into recycled aggregate in the <strong data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"664\">8\u201316 mm<\/strong> fraction and reused in the production of new concrete.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"721\" data-end=\"1084\">Three <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Hitachi<\/span><\/span> excavators were used on the project to carry out the selective dismantling of the structure. Hazardous building materials such as asbestos-containing window putty, wired glass, and artificial mineral fibres (AMF) were removed professionally, disposed of separately, and landfilled in accordance with legal requirements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1143\" data-end=\"1705\">Special attention was given to preserving reusable components. In total, <strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1264\">20 large-format glued-laminated timber beams<\/strong> from the hall structure were carefully removed and recovered undamaged with the help of a crane. Three of these beams were handed over to the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)<\/span><\/span>, where they were examined for structural integrity and compressive strength. The remaining <strong data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1548\">17 beams<\/strong> were reused in a neighbouring new-build project, demonstrating how targeted deconstruction planning can keep valuable building materials in the usage cycle.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1707\" data-end=\"1987\">With the deconstruction complete, the way is now clear for the construction of new production halls to be built on the former furniture factory site.
