For everything to run smoothly on site, you need people like Dustin Beil. The 39-year-old has been a certified construction machinery master since 2022 and, since 2024, Operations Manager at our member company BECKER Baumaschinen GmbH.<\/p>\n

Mr Beil, at a very basic level: what are the responsibilities of a workshop manager and operations manager at the BECKER Group?<\/strong>
\nAs Operations Manager at BECKER Baumaschinen GmbH, I am responsible for organizing and planning our entire workshop and machinery division. This includes managing workflows, controlling costs, and leading our workshop team. A particular focus is on our construction equipment: we ensure that maintenance, repairs, and deployment planning run smoothly\u2014because only then can the BECKER Group\u2019s sites operate efficiently and reliably.<\/p>\n

What motivated you to pursue this career path?<\/strong>
\nMy fascination with construction machinery has been with me for a long time. Large machines, modern technology, and the responsibility of keeping them ready for use at all times fascinated me from the very beginning. This passion has shaped my professional path significantly and still motivates me today.<\/p>\n

Our column is called \u201cA Day in the Life of \u2026\u201d. What does a typical workday look like for you?<\/strong>
\nThere is hardly such a thing as a truly typical day for us\u2014and that\u2019s exactly what makes the job so exciting. Every day brings new tasks and challenges. Sometimes it\u2019s about analyzing technical issues, sometimes coordinating spare parts, or planning major repair work. Variety is guaranteed, and no two days are the same.<\/p>\n

Has your work changed due to new machines and technologies?<\/strong>
\nDefinitely. Technical development is advancing rapidly, and modern machines have become significantly more complex. That requires not only a high level of technical know-how, but also a willingness to keep learning continuously. At the same time, modern diagnostic and assistance systems make many processes easier and increase efficiency.<\/p>\n

What has been the biggest challenge in your role so far?<\/strong>
\nOne of the biggest challenges is integrating new machines into our fleet. At BECKER, we continuously expand it with the latest technology to meet the rising demands of increasingly complex demolition and construction projects. In doing so, many factors have to be considered\u2014from technical performance and cost-effectiveness to practical suitability on site. In recent years, we have specifically invested in powerful machines such as the CAT 395<\/strong>, a 100-ton excavator for the heaviest applications, and the Liebherr R 960 Demolition<\/strong> with its 36.5-meter<\/strong> boom for high-reach demolition work. Especially here, it becomes clear how crucial experience and forward-looking planning are.<\/p>\n

What qualities should an operations manager in a company like BECKER Baumaschinen GmbH bring to the table?<\/strong>
\nIn addition to solid technical understanding, strong organizational skills, a sense of responsibility, and leadership ability are essential. It is important to keep an overview even in stressful situations and to find solutions together as a team. Flexibility and the willingness to develop continuously are also part of the job\u2014because innovation and progress are integral to our everyday work.<\/p>\n
