Mastering Demolition

Register Now for the “Certified Master” at ABZ Hamm

New registration option for the master class starts in September: advanced training for demolition and concrete cutting technology enters the next round.

The demand for qualified skilled workers in the demolition industry continues to grow. Since 2019, four master programs leading to the qualification “Certified Master for Demolition and Concrete Cutting Technology” have already been successfully completed at the Hamm Training Center (ABZ). In total, 24 young masters have so far been qualified for leadership roles in the industry. Five more are currently in the pipeline; their final exams will take place at the end of April 2026.

“This year we are once again looking for the ‘masters of tomorrow,’ because in September we want to start a new master class for the demolition and concrete drilling and sawing sector,” explains Anna Nierhaus, Head of Continuing Education and Training at ABZ Hamm. She provides personal advice to interested companies and employees in advance. Registrations are still possible until the end of May 2026.

Eight Months of Intensive Training

The master program runs for around eight months full-time and comprises approximately 1,200 teaching hours. It is divided into three modules:

  • Trainer Aptitude (AEVO): 7–18 September 2026
  • Basic Qualification: 21 September–27 November 2026
  • Action-Specific Qualification: 11 January–30 April 2027

Each part concludes with a partial examination. In addition to technical expertise, the curriculum also includes business and organizational competencies, preparing future masters for leadership and trainer roles.

Detailed information and the option to register online can be found at www.bauakademie-west.de (search term: “Meister Abbruch und Betontrenntechnik”) or via “Certified Master for Demolition and Concrete Cutting Technology” – IHK Dortmund.

Multiple Entry Pathways

Participation depends on professional qualifications within the industry.
Structural demolition mechanics (Bauwerksmechaniker) specializing in demolition and concrete cutting can start directly after completing their training, although additional practical experience is recommended.

Career changers with construction-related training need at least one year of professional experience in demolition or concrete drilling and sawing; applicants from other professions need two years. Unskilled workers may also obtain the master title if they are suitable and have at least four years of professional experience.

Foreman and Site Supervisor (Werkpolier)

ABZ Hamm also offers annual continuing education programs for foreman and site supervisor (Werkpolier) in demolition and concrete cutting technology. The courses run for two or six weeks. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate issued by the collective bargaining parties.

With these training programs, the Hamm Training Center sends a clear signal for the sustainable qualification of skilled and managerial personnel—and for the future viability of a specialized industry. The German Demolition Association (Deutscher Abbruchverband e.V.) supports the training at ABZ Hamm from foreman level to site supervisor and master level. In this context, Mr Widera (Head of Demolition Technology, Blasting Technology and Hazardous Substances) also assumes teaching responsibility as a lecturer across all further-training programs relevant to demolition.
