Dear Sir or Madam, dear readers, after several months of delay, the Federal Government has adopted the Action Programme for the implementation of the National Circular Economy Strategy. From the perspective of the German Demolition Association, this is an important step: selective dismantling is recognised as a key prerequisite for circular construction, and public procurement, the digitalisation of material flows, and investments in circular markets are also addressed. This marks a beginning. What matters now is what emerges from it in practice. Because the circular economy does not begin with recycling, but already with dismantling. This is where it is decided whether components and construction materials can be identified, removed free of hazardous substances, cleanly separated, and reused or recycled to a high standard. We therefore expressly welcome the fact that the dismantling capability of buildings is to be given greater consideration in public procurement in the future. At the same time, the announced measures must now translate into concrete market impulses. For our industry, it is crucial that secondary raw materials are actually met with reliable demand, that reuse becomes economically viable, and that the framework conditions for companies remain practical. Digital material information, too, only creates value if it can be used in everyday site operations and leads to better material cycles. The DA will therefore follow and support the implementation of the Action Programme constructively and attentively. You can find our full position — and why dismantling must be the starting point of every functioning circular economy — in the linked press release. We wish you an informative read. Your DA Team |
