How do you protect your employees? | DA Newsletter No. 17/2026

Dear Sir or Madam, dear readers,

tomorrow is 1 May — Labour Day. A day that is not only about jobs, but also about what makes work possible in the first place: health, safety, and fair framework conditions. In our industry, one topic is especially central — occupational safety. Because demolition is physically demanding, technically complex, and comes with risks that cannot be brushed aside. All the more important that protection does not end on paper, but reaches the jobsite.

That is exactly what this newsletter addresses with an abstract from a presentation at FACHTAGUNG ABBRUCH 2026: “Occupational Safety, Modern and Innovative — with a Practical Lens and a Wink.” The article shows how occupational safety can work today — serious, clear, and close to reality, but without the raised index finger. Because sometimes a message sticks best when it is delivered with a touch of humour.

And because occupational safety in demolition is inseparable from hazardous substances, the second linked article focuses on a topic everyone knows and no one should underestimate: asbestos in building dismantling. The spotlight is on the risk-based measures concept in the amended Hazardous Substances Ordinance — in other words: which measures are required when, how companies can set themselves up properly, and why structure, verifiable documentation, and clear processes will matter even more going forward.

We wish you an enjoyable read and a sunny day off.
